Monet, originally known as Monocraft, began as a manufacturer of metal plaques for women's handbags. In the late 1920s, the company recognised a growing demand for costume jewellery as a more affordable alternative to fine jewellery. Under the leadership of Edmond Granville, a former Cartier fine jewellery designer, Monocraft transitioned into a major player in the fashion industry, eventually changing its name to Monet in 1937
